Ukraine Increases Production of Interceptor Drones for Export and the Armed Forces

The Ukrainian defense industry is demonstrating steady growth, particularly in the production of interceptor drones for defense needs and potential export. Presidential advisor on strategic issues Oleksandr Kamyshin notes that opening external markets for domestic defense products is an economically beneficial step. According to him, the export of ten units of weaponry will ensure the free transfer of at least four units to the Ukrainian military due to additional tax revenues to the budget.

Bureaucratic Hurdles and Expansion Plans

Despite the decision of the National Security and Defense Council to allow controlled exports of defense products, actual commercial shipments abroad have not yet begun. The main reason for the delay, according to Kamyshin, is the sluggishness of bureaucratic procedures in partner countries. To initiate purchases, foreign governments need to update their military doctrines and change procurement policy regulations.

“Ten products designated for export will provide at least four units free of charge for the Armed Forces due to revenues to the state budget.”

Production Development and International Cooperation

Since December 2025, Ukraine has been producing more interceptor drones than it uses to repel Russian attacks. More than twenty Ukrainian manufacturers are ready to significantly increase the production volumes of this technology. Kamyshin is convinced that the establishment of joint ventures with European companies is key for the long-term international presence of Ukrainian arms manufacturers.

In 2026, the launch of at least ten joint productions in Europe is planned, involving over one billion dollars in investments. It is expected that this year Ukrainian defense enterprises will be able to produce weaponry worth approximately 50 billion dollars.

It is worth noting that domestically produced interceptor drones are already destroying between 20 to 33% of enemy strike UAVs of the Shahed type that enter Ukrainian airspace. In comparison, as recently as November 2025, these drones were only downing isolated Russian UAVs.
