The ambassadors of the EU member states have given the “green light” to the updated text of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement between Ukraine and the EU. This document is set to replace the temporary “trade visa-free” regime, which will end in June 2025.

Approval of the Agreement and Subsequent Formal Procedures

The decision to approve the new text of the agreement was made at the level of the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the EU (Coreper). The official approval of the document is scheduled for October 13 during the meeting of the EU Council on Justice and Home Affairs. After this step, the agreement must undergo several more important stages of approval.

“Today, Coreper made this decision, and I can confirm that on Monday the EU Council will approve the agreement,” said a source from the publication.

How the New Agreement Will Function

After formal approval by the European Union, the agreement will be finalized within the association committee between Ukraine and the EU in a trade configuration. This body operates in accordance with the provisions of the Association Agreement. Ukraine must also approve its position regarding the new agreement. Only after completing all the prescribed procedures will the updated trade rules between Ukraine and EU countries come into effect.
