The Number of Ukrainian Migrants Abroad is Nearly 6 Million

Велика Британія ще на два роки продовжила дію програми, яка дозволяє українцям легально перебувати у країні. Німеччина натомість позбавить виплат безробітних.

In the last nine months of 2025, the growth in the number of Ukrainians who have left the country has slowed down. According to estimates from the National Bank of Ukraine, since the beginning of the year, the number of migrants has increased by 166,000 people, which is significantly lower compared to the same period last year when this figure reached 390,000.

Dynamics of Ukrainian Emigration and Main Host Countries

After the onset of Russia’s full-scale aggression, the number of Ukrainians who left the country sharply increased, peaking at the end of 2022 at around 8-9 million people. Since then, the rate of emigration has stabilized, and a slight, gradual increase in the number of Ukrainian citizens abroad has been observed during 2023-2025.

As of early October 2025, there are 5.8 million Ukrainians outside the country. Approximately 4-4.5 million of them are under temporary protection in European Union countries. The largest number of Ukrainian migrants resides in Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic. In Poland, Ukrainians rank second after German citizens in terms of spending: their quarterly expenditures reach nearly 2 billion zlotys.

Changes in Protection Status and New Restrictions

Switzerland has recently introduced restrictions on granting protection status to Ukrainian citizens from regions that are not active combat zones. Ukrainians from western regions, which are considered safe for return, may be deported. At the same time, the validity of status S has been extended until March 4, 2027.

“During 2023-2025, the indicators remain relatively stable, with a slight gradual increase, noted the National Bank.”
