One of Spain’s leading banks — Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) — has begun offering retail clients services for buying, selling, and storing crypto assets. The new service allows users to work with cryptocurrencies directly through the bank’s mobile app, making investment in digital assets as convenient and accessible as possible.

Functionality and Features of the Service
In the initial phase, BBVA clients in Spain can only conduct transactions with Bitcoin and Ethereum. To use the new features, there is no need to install additional apps or turn to third-party platforms — all transactions take place within the bank’s official mobile application. BBVA utilizes its own technological infrastructure, without involving external service providers, which enhances the level of security and control over clients’ funds.
“We want to make it easier for our retail clients in Spain to invest in crypto assets through a simple and accessible digital solution on their mobile phones. Our goal is to support them in exploring digital assets, backed by the strength and security of a bank like BBVA.”
Future Plans and Bank Recommendations
BBVA notes that in the future, the list of supported digital assets will expand to meet client demand and provide them with more investment opportunities. The bank already has experience implementing similar services in Switzerland and Turkey, and has now taken this step in the Spanish market.
BBVA actively supports the cryptocurrency sector and provides its clients with recommendations on the optimal share of cryptocurrencies in their portfolios. In particular, the bank advises allocating 3% to 7% of the investment portfolio to digital assets. The introduction of new services aligns with BBVA’s strategy to develop digital financial products and support modern investment tools.
