BlackRock’s Dominance in the ETF Market

The largest player among spot ETFs in the US is the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from BlackRock. It has accumulated 748,968 BTC, which is nearly 60% of all digital assets in this segment. The Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) ranks second, controlling 199,798 BTC. Together, these two funds own over 75% of the US spot Bitcoin ETF market.

“The lion’s share of assets is controlled by the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from BlackRock ― 748,968 BTC, which constitutes 59.9% of all Bitcoins in American spot ETFs.”

Changes in Ownership Structure and Capital Outflow

The positions of Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), which until recently held over 600,000 BTC, have significantly decreased. Its reserves have now shrunk to approximately 180,000 BTC. This decline occurred due to a substantial outflow of funds following the conversion of the fund to an ETF format and increased competition among new market participants.

It is also worth noting that on August 19, 2025, a capital outflow of $523.31 million was recorded in the spot Bitcoin ETF sector. This indicates dynamic changes and heightened volatility in the realm of institutional cryptocurrency investments.
