Ukrainian Farmers to Receive Subsidies for Cotton Cultivation for the First Time

Ще один крок до виробництва пороху: аграрії отримають субсидії на вирощування бавовнику.

A new government support program for farmers growing cotton in the southern regions of Ukraine has been launched. For the first time, the state will provide financial assistance to agrarians working in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, and Kherson regions.

State Subsidy for Growing a Strategic Crop

According to the initiative to restore cotton cultivation, the subsidy will amount to 10,000 hryvnias per hectare of land sown with this crop. The importance of cotton has particularly increased during the war, as cotton cellulose is a key raw material for producing gunpowder, enhancing the strategic value of this plant for the country.

To receive funding, legal entities and individual entrepreneurs must be registered in the agricultural register, have no debts to the state budget, and not engage in activities in temporarily occupied territories.

Application Submission Procedure and Payment Deadlines

Applications for the subsidy can be submitted from June 10 to July 10, 2025, through the official website dar.gov.ua. Payments will begin on September 15. The government expects this will stimulate the expansion of sown areas and help meet the needs of Ukraine’s defense industry.

“This plant has special value in wartime, as cotton cellulose is used for producing gunpowder.”

It should be noted that last year, a successful experiment in cotton cultivation was conducted in the southern regions of Ukraine, which laid the groundwork for launching a government support program for this sector.
