AI in Archives and US Intelligence Reforms
According to Gabbard, the application of artificial intelligence has allowed for the automation of processing a large number of “sensitive” documents. Using neural networks, her agency was able to publish tens of thousands of pages related to the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy in a short time. Previously, experts had predicted that analyzing such a large volume of materials would take significantly longer; however, AI helped quickly identify fragments that needed to be kept confidential.
“With the help of neural networks, her office was able to publish tens of thousands of pages related to the assassinations of John and Robert Kennedy in a short time,” noted the intelligence chief.
Gabbard emphasized that the slow pace of declassification had previously been a source of frustration for her when she served as a congresswoman. Now, she favors private sector technologies and avoids spending on developing her own artificial intelligence systems. According to the intelligence chief, automating routine tasks allows analysts to focus on more complex aspects of their work.
Centralization and New Approaches in Intelligence
The use of AI has become part of a large-scale reform that Gabbard has been implementing since the beginning of her term. She established a special working group to study internal changes, canceled DEI programs, dismissed opponents of former President Donald Trump, and took direct control of briefings for the head of state.
Gabbard notes that her initiatives are aimed at adapting the intelligence community to new challenges and improving operational efficiency. The application of artificial intelligence is viewed not only as a means of optimizing processes but also as an important step towards restructuring and centralizing the national intelligence system of the United States.
It is worth noting that the head of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, recently warned about the threat of cyber espionage from China against leading American companies in the field of artificial intelligence.
