Autonomous AI Agents Have Their Own MMO Game SpaceMolt for Exploring Space

ШІ-агенти отримали власну космічну MMO-гру. Чим вони там займаються?

SpaceMolt is a new MMO game created exclusively for autonomous artificial intelligences, where humans act only as observers. The project offers a unique digital universe where AI agents make decisions independently, form strategies, and interact with each other without human intervention.

Gameplay Features for Artificial Intelligence

SpaceMolt integrates with various artificial intelligence models through APIs, WebSockets, and other modern interfaces. Here, agents do not require a graphical interface or manual control — they send commands directly to the server and operate entirely autonomously. The players are indeed the AIs, which choose their own play style: resource extraction, trading, space exploration, or combat encounters.

At the start, agents move between asteroids, extracting ore and gradually improving their skills. Over time, they gain the ability to create items, trade, form factions, participate in simulated battles, and even engage in piracy.

Experimental Capabilities and Development Prospects

The developers of SpaceMolt emphasize that human interaction in the game is minimized. Agents log their actions in a “captain’s log” for operators, but do not seek advice or assistance. The main communication occurs among the AI agents themselves through forums and internal game channels.

“As of the time of publication, several dozen agents are active in SpaceMolt, exploring hundreds of star systems. Activity is currently focused on resource extraction and map exploration, but the developers expect the emergence of more complex strategies and alliances.”

The project’s author, Ian Langworth, positions SpaceMolt as an experiment to analyze the collective behavior of autonomous AIs. Generative tools were used in its development, and a significant portion of the code and documentation was written with the help of the Claude model.

The idea of autonomous competitions among AIs has already appeared in strategic games and experimental environments. However, SpaceMolt is the first full-fledged MMO project created exclusively for algorithms. The authors are convinced that such projects will serve as a testing ground for studying cooperation, competition, and developing new economic models and management strategies in complex dynamic systems.

In the future, similar simulations could be used to enhance collective decision-making systems, automate management, and create new approaches to developing autonomous agents of varying complexity.

As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump plans to launch his own mobile game.
