Experts, including federal prison consultant Christopher Zoukis, note that medium-security prisons, where inmates serving long sentences are typically sent, have a lower quality of life and a higher level of violence compared to low-security facilities. According to him,

“prisons on the West Coast are usually much harsher”

.

Bankman-Fried’s site reports that this prison is notorious for its brutal conditions, racial segregation, and high levels of violence. Inmates are forced to join racially-based gangs for survival, referred to as car. Vulnerable groups are constantly under threat, and frequent fights, assaults, and aggressive behavior from staff make this prison one of the most dangerous in the BOP prison locator system.

It is worth noting that Sam Bankman-Fried was previously transferred from a federal prison in New York. Additionally, in early March 2025, Tucker Carlson interviewed SBF.
