According to data from the Polish Economic Institute, over 1.5 million citizens of Ukraine currently reside legally in Poland. Researchers note that about 40% of them have a high chance of staying in the country permanently, as they not only declare their intention to remain but also actively legalize their stay.

Who Has the Greatest Chances for Long-Term Residence
The highest likelihood of staying in Poland is among the so-called “migrants” – young people who arrived in the country more than four years ago, before the escalation of the war. This group constitutes 15% of all Ukrainian migrants.
“The highest probability is observed among the ‘migrants’ (15%), that is, relatively young people who arrived in Poland more than four years ago (before the escalation of the war),” researchers noted.
Motives for Staying and Integration of Ukrainians
A significant portion, namely 60% of adult Ukrainian migrants, are currently in what is called a transitional period. For them, the main motives for staying in Poland are employment, economic necessity, or the inability to return home due to destroyed housing or occupation of territories in Ukraine.
Ukrainians are integrating into Polish society most rapidly in the economic sphere. The level of professional activity among adult immigrants from Ukraine reaches 75-85%, which even exceeds the corresponding figure among Polish citizens. Currently, Ukrainians make up 5% of all individuals with social insurance in Poland. At the same time, in cultural, social, and identity dimensions, integration is occurring noticeably more slowly.
