Ukraine and the United States are in negotiations to sign a strategic agreement that involves the transfer of advanced drone technologies from Kyiv to American partners in exchange for royalties or other forms of compensation. Last week, a Ukrainian delegation worked in Washington alongside representatives of President Donald Trump’s administration to develop the details of this agreement. Preliminary estimates suggest that the volume of the agreements could reach billions of dollars. The transition to discussing specific contract terms may take several more months.

Ukrainian Drones — A Competitive Advantage on the Battlefield
Despite the fact that the US has already established production of complex drones, Ukraine has significantly outpaced the American side in the mass production of cheap and effective drones that have demonstrated their effectiveness in combat conditions. As representatives of the American administration emphasize, the potential agreement will allow US forces to access competitive UAV solutions developed by Ukrainian specialists.
At the same time, Ukraine is interested in purchasing modern American weapons, including the Patriot missile system, HIMARS rocket systems, ATACMS systems, and multi-role fighters.
The Possibility of a “Mega Deal” in Defense
The discussed drone agreement could be part of a broader military package that will include what is referred to as a “mega deal.” According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine hopes to acquire weapons from the US worth tens of billions of dollars within this framework, including long-range missiles. This will enable Kyiv to deliver more powerful strikes against Russian positions.
