In a phone interview published by NBC News, Trump emphasized that he is “very upset” by Putin’s recent statements suggesting alternative methods for establishing new leadership in Ukraine and removing President Volodymyr Zelensky from power. According to Trump, such new leadership in Ukraine indicates that “there will be no agreement for a long time.”

“I was upset by this. But if an agreement is not reached, and if I believe that it was Russia’s fault, I am going to impose secondary sanctions on Russia,” Trump stated.

The President also mentioned the possibility of negotiations with Putin this week. He added that if he cannot reach an agreement to stop the bloodshed in Ukraine, and believes that Russia is responsible for it, he will impose additional tariffs on Russian oil.
