Trump Considers New Sanctions Against Russia Due to Putin’s Aggression and Stalled Negotiations

Захід готує новий санкційний удар по РФ.

U.S. President Donald Trump may announce new sanctions against the Russian Federation this week. This move is prompted by Putin’s prolonged aggressive actions against Ukraine and the lack of progress in peace negotiations. According to reports, it is currently likely that the new sanctions will not affect the banking sector; however, alternative ways to increase pressure on the Kremlin are being considered to compel it to make concessions, including agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire.

Possible Rejections and Uncertainty Regarding Future Support

At the same time, a final decision on the sanctions has not yet been made. Trump may decide against their implementation if he concludes that further peace talks have reached a dead end. According to some sources, the U.S. president is “tired” of the negotiation process and is contemplating a complete withdrawal from it if the “last push” does not yield results. The question remains open as to how the United States will act if it withdraws from the peace process and whether it will continue to provide military support to Ukraine.

Coordination Among Allies and Expert Assessments

According to a leading German publication, an internal document from the German Foreign Ministry indicates that Europe and the U.S. have lost close contact and are virtually not exchanging information regarding countering Russia’s circumvention of sanctions. It is believed that cooperation among G7 countries in this regard has also lost momentum. This raises doubts about the possibility of coordinating a new package of restrictions against Russia under the current circumstances.

“Cooperation among G7 countries on this has also lost momentum. How Europeans and Americans intend to agree on an additional package of sanctions under these circumstances remains a mystery,” stated David O’Sullivan, head of the EU sanctions committee.

At the same time, Vladislav Vlasuk, the President of Ukraine’s representative for sanctions policy, considers it premature to speak of a “collapse of cooperation.” According to him, there is still an active exchange of information and ideas among partners within the sanctions coalition.
