In recent years, Ukraine has seen a significant increase in the number of winemaking enterprises. According to Volodymyr Pechko, the head of the Association of Gardeners, Viticulturists, and Winemakers of Ukraine, approximately 70 new wine producers have emerged in the market due to the simplification of legislative procedures.

Accessible Conditions for Establishing Wineries
Previously, to obtain a license for wine production, one had to pay around 500,000 hryvnias. After the implementation of a simpler registration system, this amount has significantly decreased, making the industry more accessible to small businesses. Currently, the country is experiencing a real boom in the establishment of small wineries; however, this has led to a shortage of raw materials for production.
Development of Viticulture and Economic Appeal
Today, grapes are grown on approximately 20,000 hectares in Ukraine, of which 5,000 hectares were planted during the war. This statistic does not include temporarily occupied territories. Global climate change has allowed for grape cultivation even in atypical regions for this, such as Kyiv region.
The activation of processing plants has contributed to an increase in the profitability of viticulture. Since 2023, the price of a kilogram of grapes for processing has risen from 5–8 hryvnias to 18–25 hryvnias.
“In Ukraine, about 70 new winemaking enterprises have emerged in recent years thanks to significant improvements in legislation.”
However, as Volodymyr Pechko notes, despite the positive changes, the export of Ukrainian wine remains at a low level.
