Kernel Oil Plant in Poltava Fully Transitioned to Green Energy

Український бізнес інвестує у зелену енергію. Олійний завод "Кернел" живиться завдяки лушпинню.

The Poltava oil extraction plant, part of the Kernel agroholding, has transitioned to the use of renewable energy sources certified by the international organization Bureau Veritas Group. By implementing its own energy complex, the enterprise provides itself with electricity generated from sunflower husks. This allows for a complete abandonment of fossil fuels and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 11,000 tons annually. Additionally, autonomous electricity production ensures the continuity of technological processes at the plant.

Leadership in Implementing Environmental Standards

The Poltava plant has become the first enterprise in Ukraine’s food industry to join the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), an international initiative aimed at achieving scientifically grounded emission reduction targets. Part of the excess “green” energy produced at the plant will be supplied to Ukraine’s energy system. The plant’s capacity allows for the processing of up to 430,000 tons of sunflower seeds per year.

Investments in Solar Energy

Progress in the development of renewable energy in Ukraine is also supported by other companies. Cyprus-based FTD Investments LTD plans to acquire stakes in the companies “Bolokhiv Solar Park-1” and “Bolokhiv Solar Park-2,” which operate solar power plants in the Zhytomyr region. The ultimate beneficiaries of FTD Investments LTD are Ukrainian entrepreneurs — founders of one of the largest electronics retailers in Ukraine, “Foxtrot.”
