Demand for Electric Vehicles in Ukraine is Growing: Automotive Market Trends 2022–2025

Українці впродовж останніх років масово пересідають на електромобілі: Експерти назвали причини.

The Ukrainian automotive market has shown significant changes in owner preferences regarding fuel type over the past three years. According to the analysis of the structure of primary registrations of imported used passenger cars in the first half of 2022–2025, gasoline vehicles traditionally held the largest market share. In 2025, their share was 46.1% of all registrations, which is slightly lower than in 2024, when this figure was 47.6%.

Changing Preferences: Decline in Demand for Diesel Cars

The popularity of gasoline cars among Ukrainians can be explained by several key factors. Firstly, there is a wide selection of models available in the European market. Secondly, there is a significant volume of imports of such cars from the USA. Additionally, the simplicity and relative affordability of servicing gasoline vehicles is an advantage.

At the same time, diesel cars are quickly losing ground. If in 2022 their market share reached 56.9%, by 2025 it had fallen to 23.2%. This trend is driven by a number of factors, including new restrictions on diesel in EU countries, a decrease in demand for older diesel vehicles in Europe, the absence of such cars in the USA, and a general decline in interest in diesel engines.

Dynamic Growth of Electric Vehicles

One of the most notable trends in the Ukrainian market is the growing popularity of electric vehicles. From 2022 to 2025, the share of electric cars in the structure of primary registrations steadily increased: from 1.2% in 2022 to 10.7% in 2023, 16.7% in 2024, and already 22.1% in 2025. The main reasons for this growth include improvements in charging infrastructure in Ukraine, the emergence of affordable models from China, South Korea, and the USA, as well as significant savings on fuel costs.

“The growth in the share of electric vehicles has become one of the most noticeable trends in the domestic automotive market. The figures for 2022-2025 were 1.2%, 10.7%, 16.7%, and 22.1%, respectively. The choice is driven by a relatively developed charging infrastructure; the availability of cars from China, South Korea, and the USA; and savings on fuel.”
