In the first half of 2025, companies that are part of the Retailers Association of Ukraine significantly expanded their presence in the domestic market. Over six months this year, they opened 1,056 new stores, while 326 retail outlets were closed. Thus, the number of stores increased by 730, indicating a positive trend in the development of retail in the country.

Geography of Store Locations
As of July 1, 2025, there were 23,892 stores operating in Ukraine, belonging to 113 retail chains across eight key sectors. The highest concentration of retail outlets is traditionally observed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, where 5,622 stores operate. In the Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions, the number of stores exceeds 2,000, while in Odesa and Kharkiv, this figure reaches over 1,000.
Market Segment Development
Most regions are demonstrating steady growth in the retail sector. The food segment, in particular, is developing at a rapid pace: in the first half of the year, 149 new stores were added to this segment. Currently, this segment accounts for 21% of the total number of retail outlets in the country. The most active development is observed in the Kyiv, Lviv, and Volyn regions.
The pharmacy market is also showing positive trends. In June 2025, there were 8,847 pharmacies operating in Ukraine, of which 383 opened during this period. At the same time, 108 pharmacies were closed, resulting in a net increase of 275 outlets.
