How Retail Reduces Costs and Increases Efficiency Through Investments in Solar Power Plants

Як ритейл зменшує витрати та підвищує ефективність завдяки інвестиціям в СЕС?

Experts note that today retailers and companies in related industries are actively implementing solar energy as a means to reduce costs and enhance energy independence. For example, two years ago, the company Epicenter began installing solar power plants (SPPs) on the roofs of three shopping centers in Kyiv and two in Vinnytsia. The total capacity of these systems is about 6 MW, which allows them to meet up to 30% of the electricity needs of these shopping centers. In the future, the company plans to continue equipping its retail and logistics facilities with solar panels.

Another example is the Novus chain, which intends to make its stores completely autonomous. In 2023, the chain has already equipped one of its stores in Novyi Petrivtsi with solar panels, which allowed it to cover 65% of the supermarket’s electricity consumption during the summer, at the time of peak solar activity.

The government is also actively implementing support programs for investments in solar power plants. This year, the international brand Fox ESS, one of the leaders in the production of inverters and energy storage systems, entered the Ukrainian market. These systems allow for the optimization of renewable energy use, particularly solar power plants, by storing energy during peak generation times and feeding it back into the grid during shortages.
