The Ministry of Economy of Ukraine has expressed concern about the possibility of suspending the “trade visa-free regime” with the European Union starting June 6, 2025. This is related to the expiration of the autonomous trade measures (ATM) that were previously implemented.

At the conference “Trade Wars: The Art of Defense,” Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka emphasized that the worst-case scenario for trade with the EU would be a return to the free trade regime that existed before June 2022. He reminded that an agreement was reached last year to review Article 29 of the agreement between Ukraine and the EU regarding the free trade area, which is to take place after the expiration of the ATM.
“If everything has gone as the European Commission planned with the autonomous trade measures, then we have somewhat slowed down with Article 29 due to a number of external circumstances. But I hope we will find this solution quite quickly. If not by June 6, then as soon as possible after June 6,” Kachka noted.
The official expressed hope that during the negotiation of new trade liberalization conditions, there will be no issues with access to the EU market. He also noted that even the pre-war trade regime with the EU was “quite good,” as no tariffs were applied to industrial goods, and there will also be no tariffs for most agricultural products.
