Ukraine and Georgia Open New Logistics Route via the Black Sea

Україна та Грузія запускають новий логістичний маршрут через Чорне море.

The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi seaport and APM Terminals Poti, which manages Georgia’s largest seaport — the Port of Poti, have signed a memorandum of cooperation. This is the first official document from the Ukrainian port aimed at developing the international transport corridor TMTM, also known as the “Middle Corridor.”

New Route and Infrastructure Changes

A new ferry route is planned to connect two private seaports — Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi and Poti. To facilitate this, a road-rail ferry complex will be constructed, with the design being handled by Top-Offer — the new owner of the Ukrainian port. Special attention is being paid to the requirements for handling cargo that will be transported via the “Middle Corridor.”

Significance for Freight Transportation and Prospects

The main goal of the signed memorandum is to attract additional cargo traffic through the “Middle Corridor,” which will traverse Ukrainian territory along the Bessarabia Route (Ukraine — Moldova — Romania). This is expected to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries and their leading ports.

However, it is reported that the full restoration of shipping from the “Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi seaport” will only be possible after the war concludes and the issue of siltation of the approach channels is resolved.
