Production of New Passenger Cars for Ukrzaliznytsia Has Started at a Ukrainian Enterprise

Нові пасажирські вагони для УЗ вироблятимуть на вітчизняному підприємстві з української сталі.

In Ukraine, the production of new passenger cars for “Ukrzaliznytsia” has begun using domestic steel and components. For the construction of 66 cars, the company “Metinvest-SMC” has supplied over 1,000 tons of rolled metal produced at the “Zaporizhstal” plant, as well as axles manufactured at “Kametstal”. Additionally, over 200 tons of structural sheet were imported for the creation of the car bogies. Such supplies play an important role in modernizing the passenger car fleet in Ukraine.

Expansion of Cooperation and Modernization of the Railway Fleet

The company is actively collaborating with one of the leading domestic manufacturers – the “Kryukiv Railway Car Building Works” (KVBZ). This allows for a prompt response to the growing demand for modern passenger cars for “Ukrzaliznytsia”. Within the framework of this cooperation, a new contract has been signed for the supply of 100 passenger cars, as well as agreements for the delivery of over 2,300 tons of rolled metal.

“UZ and KVBZ have signed a new contract for the supply of 100 passenger cars. This agreement opens up new opportunities for the further development of our cooperation. Already today, contracts for over 2,300 tons of rolled metal have been signed with KVBZ,” noted representatives from “Metinvest-SMC”.

Demand and Renewal of Rolling Stock

In “Ukrzaliznytsia”, it is emphasized that due to significant aging of the car fleet and the consequences of shelling from the Russian Federation, the number of usable passenger cars has decreased by 189 units over the year. At the same time, since the beginning of 2025, only 39 new cars have been added to the fleet. In July of this year, “Ukrzaliznytsia” transported 2.7 million passengers, with each car on average serving 14% more passengers than in the same period last year.
