Germany Confirms Refusal of Gas from Russia and Nord Stream

Німеччина відкинула ідею щодо повернення до закупівель газу у РФ та використання Nord Stream.

Germany has clearly stated that it does not plan to lift anti-Russian sanctions and will not return to the practice of direct gas purchases from Russia. This was announced by the deputy spokesperson for the federal government, Christiane Hoffmann.

The representative of the German Ministry of Economy, Annika Einhorn, emphasized that Germany has made significant efforts to quickly eliminate its dependence on Russia in the energy sector. She noted that the country has no intention of falling back into this dependency, as energy freedom is a “great value.”

Einhorn also clarified that Germany does not plan to resume gas imports through any of the four branches of the Nord Stream pipeline, including the one that remained after the explosions of the other three in September 2022.

“The German government is in no way involved in any potential negotiations between the US and Russia regarding the gas pipeline and has nothing to do with it,” — stated Einhorn.

Furthermore, she reported that Germany does not purchase liquefied gas from Russia, but did not rule out that the volumes of gas bought by commercial companies may contain “molecules” of Russian LNG.
