President of the United States Donald Trump has signed an executive order extending the sanctions against Russia that were imposed in April 2021 by his predecessor Joe Biden. These restrictions were a response to the harmful foreign activities of the Russian government and were expanded in March 2022 following the onset of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to the order signed on April 15, 2021, the US president declared a national emergency, allowing for sanctions against individuals and entities that pose a threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States due to the actions of the Russian government. This emergency was expanded on March 8, 2022.
“I am extending the national emergency for one year,” the Trump order states.
In turn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the preparation of new Ukrainian sanctions packages aimed at Russia and those supporting its aggression. Among the targets of these sanctions are the shadow tanker fleet, propagandists, and other individuals assisting Russia in its war.
Zelensky emphasized that work is ongoing to align Ukrainian sanctions with international partners to ensure their effectiveness and impact.
