Key Takeaways from the Meeting of Postal Service Leaders
During the negotiations, Smiliansky presented Steiner with a unique stamp dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, which “Ukrposhta” is issuing in collaboration with the American side. According to Smiliansky, more than half of all export parcels from Ukraine are sent through the US Postal Service.
“The US Postal Service accounts for over 50% of export parcels from Ukraine.”
Financial Results and Salaries: An Analysis of Two Companies
As experts note, the meeting of the postal service leaders took place against the backdrop of similar financial trends in the operations of both organizations. The last time the US Postal Service was profitable was in 2006, and by the end of 2025, its losses reached $9 billion, which is $0.5 billion less than the previous year. “Ukrposhta” demonstrated a profit in 2021, but in 2025 recorded a loss of 206.551 million hryvnias, equivalent to approximately $4.9 million.

Despite the negative financial results, the leaders of both postal companies receive significant compensation. David Steiner’s annual salary is $346,780, which is approximately $28,900 per month. Ihor Smiliansky receives 11.6 million hryvnias per year, which is about $278,978, or $23,300 per month.
At the same time, the share of salary in the structure of losses for Steiner is only 0.004%, while for Smiliansky this figure reaches 5.7%.
It was previously reported that “Ukrposhta” managed to reduce its net loss by half by the end of 2025. However, despite the improvement, the company’s financial results remain ambiguous due to underperformance in revenue targets.
